Planting Progress Update – 8/1/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions were largely unchanged from the previous week, remaining favorable to previous year levels.
Corn:
Over three quarters of the corn crop remains in good or excellent condition during the week ending Jul 31st, with 18% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were largely unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
Corn silking stood at 91% during the week ending Jul 31st, up from 87% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 85%.
Soybeans:
72% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Jul 31st, with 21% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly improved from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
Soybean blooming stood at 85% during the week ending Jul 31st, up from 78% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 79%. 54% of soybeans have set pods during the week ending Jul 31st, up from 48% during the previous year and a five year average figure of 44%.
