Biweekly Railroad Service Report Update – Jul ’15

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) published the 34th – 37th weekly service report updates for Class 1 railroads spanning data acquired through the end of Jun ’15. Overall, ethanol and grain transportation speeds remained at above average levels throughout the month while weekly held cars mostly remained at below average levels. Ethanol Transportation: • Average train speeds for ethanol transportation remained at above average levels during the month of June. Jun 27th ethanol train speeds of 21.9 MPH were 4.0% higher than the previous 36 week average ethanol train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Ethanol - July • Ethanol cars held 48-120 hours continued to remain below average levels during June, falling to a new low during the week ending Jun 13th and remaining at below average levels throughout the rest of the month. Jun 27th ethanol cars held 48-120 hours were 29.2% below the previous 36 week average ethanol cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Ethanol - July • Ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours declined to a new low during the week ending Jun 13th before rising to above average levels during the last week of the month. Jun 27th ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours were 7.2% above the previous 36 week average ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours. Weekly Cars Held Greater Than 120 Hours-Ethanol - July Grain Transportation: • Average train speeds for grain transportation increased to a new high during the week ending Jun 13th while remaining at above average levels during the month of June. Jun 27th grain train speeds of 21.8 MPH were 2.4% higher than the previous 36 week average grain train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Grain - July • Grain cars held 48-120 hours declined to a new low during the week ending Jun 6th while remaining at below average levels during the month of June. Jun 27th grain cars held 48-120 hours were 20.1% lower than the previous 36 week average grain cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Grain - July • Grain cars held longer than 120 hours declined to a new low during the week ending Jun 6th while remaining at below average levels during the month of June. Jun 27th grain cars held longer than 120 hours were 20.1% lower than the previous 36 week average grain cars held longer than 120 hours. Weekly Cars Held Greater Than 120 Hours-Grain - July
