Crop Progress Update – 10/12/21

According to the USDA, corn and soybean harvest progress each finished slightly below analyst expectations throughout the week ending Oct 10th.

Corn:

Corn maturation as of the week ending Oct 10th was 94% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 93% completed and the five year average pace of 86% completed.

Corn harvest progress as of the week ending Oct 10th was 41% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 39% completed and the five year average pace of 31% completed. Corn harvest progress finished slightly below analyst expectations of 42% completed, however.

An additional 12% of the total U.S. corn crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 10th. Weekly increases in corn harvest on a percentage basis were led by New Jersey, followed by Oregon and Delaware.

58% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Oct 10th, down one percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly below analyst expectations of 59%. 15% of the current corn crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, unchanged from the previous week.

Soybeans:

91% of the soybean crop has dropped leaves as of the week ending Oct 10th, finishing slightly below last year’s pace of 92% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 89% completed.

Soybean harvest progress as of the week ending Oct 10th was 49% complete, finishing behind last year’s pace of 58% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 40% completed. Soybean harvest progress finished slightly below analyst expectations of 50% completed.

An additional 15% of the total U.S. soybean crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 10th. Weekly increases in soybean harvest on a percentage basis were led by South Dakota, followed by Nebraska and North Dakota.

59% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Oct 10th, up one percent from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above analyst expectations of 58%. 14% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, unchanged from the previous week.
