Planting Progress Update – 10/3/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Oct 2nd.
Corn:
73% of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Oct 2nd, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures declined slightly from the previous week but remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 68% of the corn crop was identified as good or excellent.
86% of corn has matured through the week ending Oct 2nd, up from 82% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 79%.
Corn harvested stood at 24% during the week ending Oct 2nd, even with the previous year’s harvest pace but below the five year average pace of 27%.
An additional 9% of the total U.S. corn crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 2nd. Weekly increases in the corn crop harvest on a percentage basis were led by Illinois, followed by Missouri and Kansas.
Soybeans:
74% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Oct 2nd, with 19% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly increased from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 64% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
83% of soybeans have dropped leaves during the week ending Oct 2nd, up from 82% experienced during the previous year but higher than the five year average figure of 79%. 26% of soybeans have been harvested through the week ending Oct 2nd, down from 36% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 27%.
An additional 16% of the total U.S. soybean crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 2nd. Weekly increases in the soybean crop harvest on a percentage basis were led by North Dakota, followed by South Dakota and Minnesota.
