Planting Progress Update – 8/8/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Aug 7th.
Corn:
Nearly three quarters of the corn crop remains in good or excellent condition during the week ending Aug 7th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures declined slightly from the previous week but remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
Corn silking stood at 97% during the week ending Aug 7th, up from 94% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 94%.
Soybeans:
72% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Aug 7th, with 21% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly improved from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
Soybean blooming stood at 91% during the week ending Aug 7th, up from 86% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 88%. 69% of soybeans have set pods during the week ending Aug 7th, up from 65% during the previous year and a five year average figure of 61%.
