Corn: With corn plantings 99% complete through the week ending Jun 5th, attention turns to emergence and condition figures. Corn emergence for the week ending Jun 12th was reported at 96% compared to a 95% emergence rate experienced last year and a five year average emergence rate of 94%. Three quarters of the corn crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Jun 12th, with 21% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly favorable to previous year figures. Soybeans: Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 12th were 92% complete, ahead of last year’s pace of 85% and the five year average pace of 87%. Of the major soybean planting states, plantings trended above the previous year most significantly in Missouri and Kansas while slight YOY declines were experienced within South Dakota and Indiana. Soybean plantings were most significantly higher when compared to five year average figures within Missouri, Arkansas and North Dakota, while a slight YOY decline was experienced within Kansas. Soybean emergence for the week ending Jun 12th was reported at 79% compared to a 72% emergence rate experienced last year and a five year average emergence rate of 72%. Nearly three quarters of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Jun 12th, with 22% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were more favorable than the previous year, when only 67% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
