Crop Progress Update – 9/4/18

According to USDA, corn dough, dent and maturation progress and soybean leaf drop progress have remained ahead of historical seasonal figures through the week ending Sep 2nd while good-to-excellent crop conditions remained slightly above five year average figures for both corn and soybeans.

Corn:

Corn dough progress as of the week ending Sep 2nd was 96% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 91% and the five year average pace of 91%.

Corn dent progress as of the week ending Sep 2nd was 75% complete, finishing significantly ahead of last year’s pace of 58% and the five year average pace of 60%.

22% of the corn crop has matured as of the week ending Sep 2nd, reaching a six year seasonal high and finishing significantly ahead of last year’s pace of 11% and the five year average pace of 11%.

A total of 67% of the corn crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 2nd, down one percent from the previous week. 12% of the corn crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition, unchanged from the previous week.

The current seasonal good-to-excellent corn conditions of 67% finished slightly above the five year average of 66.6% but remained below the good-to-excellent conditions experienced throughout 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Soybeans:

16% of the soybean crop has dropped leaves as of the week ending Sep 2nd, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 10% and the five year average pace of 9%.

A total of 66% of the soybean crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 2nd, unchanged from the previous week. 11% of the soybean crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition, also unchanged from the previous week.

The current seasonal good-to-excellent soybean conditions of 66% finished slightly above the five year average of 64.6% but remained below the good-to-excellent conditions experienced throughout 2014 and 2016.
