Crop Progress Update – 8/3/20

According to the USDA, the current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was unchanged from the previous week, finishing consistent with analyst expectations, while the current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition increased one percent from the previous week, finishing slightly above analyst expectations. Corn: Corn silking as of the week ending Aug 2nd was 92% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 72% completed and the five year average pace of 87% completed. Corn dough as of the week ending Aug 2nd was 39% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 20% completed and the five year average pace of 33% completed. 72% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Aug 2nd, unchanged from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was consistent with analyst expectations. Seven percent of the current corn crop was identified as very poor or poor, also unchanged from the previous week. Soybeans: Soybean blooming as of the week ending Aug 2nd was 85% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 68% completed and the five year average pace of 82% completed. Soybean pod setting as of the week ending Aug 2nd was 59% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 32% completed and the five year average pace of 54% completed. 73% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Aug 2nd, up one percent from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above analyst expectations of 72%. Six percent of the current soybean crop was identified as very poor or poor, unchanged from the previous week.
