Biweekly Railroad Service Report Update – Aug ’15

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) published the 38th – 42nd weekly service report updates for Class 1 railroads spanning data acquired through the end of Jul ’15. Overall, ethanol and grain transportation speeds remained at above average levels throughout the month while weekly held cars mostly remained at below average levels. Ethanol Transportation: • Average train speeds for ethanol transportation remained above average levels for the majority of the month of July. Aug 1st ethanol train speeds of 21.9 MPH were 3.6% higher than the previous 41 week average ethanol train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Ethanol - Aug • Ethanol cars held 48-120 hours continued to remain below average levels during July, falling to a new low during the week ending Jul 4th and remaining at below average levels throughout the rest of the month. Aug 1st ethanol cars held 48-120 hours were 22.2% below the previous 41 week average ethanol cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Ethanol - Aug • Ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours also declined to a new low during the week ending Jul 4th but increased to above average levels for the majority of the duration of the month. Aug 1st ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours were 6.4% above the previous 41 week average ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours. Weekly Cars Held Greater Than 120 Hours-Ethanol - Aug Grain Transportation: • Average train speeds for grain transportation remained at above average levels during the month of July. Aug 1st grain train speeds of 21.6 MPH were 1.4% higher than the previous 41 week average grain train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Grain - Aug • Grain cars held 48-120 hours remained at below average levels during the month of July. Aug 1st grain cars held 48-120 hours were 15.1% lower than the previous 41 week average grain cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Grain - Aug • Grain cars held longer than 120 hours also remained at below average levels during the month of July. Aug 1st grain cars held longer than 120 hours were 17.7% lower than the previous 41 week average grain cars held longer than 120 hours. Weekly Cars Held Greater Than 120 Hours-Grain - Aug
